Start with the right information
You don't need to diagnose it yourself. These details help us understand the job:
- Filter model
- Pressure reading
- Leak or water issue
What we evaluate
Cartridge, DE, and sand filters have different internal parts and maintenance requirements. High pressure, low return flow, and leaks may also indicate an issue elsewhere in the circulation system.
Common reasons customers call
- Filter tank leaks
- damaged internal components
- pressure rising too quickly
- low return flow
- worn valves or fittings
- persistent cloudy water despite filtration
Before you request service
Tell us whether your filter is cartridge, DE, or sand, provide the model, and share pressure readings before and after cleaning if available.
For routine cleaning, also see our filter-cleaning service; repairs and replacements are evaluated separately.
The pressure gauge tells only part of the story
A rapid pressure rise can indicate a dirty filter or restricted flow; low pressure can accompany suction-side problems. Leaks, internal damage, and poor filtration require different diagnostic approaches.
Information that helps us evaluate your request
Filter manufacturer and model; cartridge, DE or sand type; clean and current pressure readings; where any water leak occurs.
Equipment and diagnosis considerations
A cartridge filter may have damaged cartridges or manifolds. DE filters have grids and internal assemblies. Sand filters use laterals and a different media arrangement. The model determines which components are relevant.
Pressurized filter tanks can be hazardous. Cracked pressure vessels or damaged clamps are not candidates for improvised patches. Routine filter cleaning is separate from structural or internal filter repair.
Our approach
- Tell us the symptoms, your equipment models, and service location.
- Our team reviews the information and confirms the appropriate next step and scope.
- We discuss practical repair or upgrade options and provide a quote before agreed work proceeds.
Frequently asked question
Does high filter pressure always mean the filter is broken?
No. Dirty media, closed valves, return-side restrictions, and other conditions can affect pressure. Diagnosis should identify the cause.

Filter repairs are different from routine cleaning
A filter can be clean yet still leak, bypass debris, or operate with damaged internal parts. We consider tank condition, clamps, manifolds, grids or cartridges, pressure readings, and connected plumbing when deciding whether to repair or replace.
How we narrow down the right solution
- Record clean-filter and current pressure if the gauge is working.
- Identify cartridge, DE, or sand filtration and the model number.
- Describe whether the issue is a leak, pressure change, or poor water clarity.
More questions homeowners ask
Why does dirt return to the pool after filtering?
Possible causes include damaged internal parts, incorrect assembly, or a bypass path; the specific filter type matters.
Can a cracked filter tank be patched?
Pressurized filter vessels require special caution; a damaged tank may need replacement rather than an improvised repair.
